The main objective of this project was to design a building to address the growing concern of future food shortages, meanwhile providing holistic living facilities for the Chelsea area in Manhattan, NYC. This 13 story building is proposed adjacent to the High Line connecting to the former with an open space level which will provide space for local farmers to sell their produce in a highly pedestrian transited area. The building’s structure consists of a staggered truss structural steel system and concrete hollow core floor slabs, providing up to 70 ft. spans of uninterrupted spaces destined for vertical farming while allowing adaptability for any unforeseen future necessities. This proposal was designed alongside former classmate Juan A. Calzada Navarro.
